Nyabikoni SS Entrepreneurship Class Visits MTRC for Practical Business Exposure
On 12th June 2025, the Mushroom Training and Resource Centre (MTRC) had the pleasure of hosting students from Nyabikoni Secondary School’s Entrepreneurship Class for a hands-on study visit aimed at enhancing their understanding of business operations, value addition, and sustainable agriculture.

The visit was part of the school’s curriculum to expose learners to real-world business environments and equip them with practical knowledge to complement their classroom studies. During the visit, the students had a guided tour of our facility and engaged with various departments to understand the day-to-day running of our operations.
Key Highlights of the Visit:
- Business Structure and Facility Layout: Students explored the different sections of our facility, including the spawn lab, growing rooms, value addition section, packaging unit, and sales area.
- Entrepreneurial Insight: Our team shared insights on how MTRC has grown from a small initiative to a fully operational agribusiness. Topics covered included business model development, marketing, customer engagement, and challenges faced in the agri-entrepreneurship space.
- Mushroom Cultivation Basics: Students were introduced to the fundamentals of mushroom farming — from substrate preparation to inoculation, fruiting, and harvesting.
- Value Addition: The learners were excited to see how mushrooms are transformed into dried, powdered, and packaged products ready for market. Emphasis was placed on the importance of value addition in increasing product shelf-life and profitability.
- Staff Interaction: The students interacted with our staff to understand their roles in ensuring the smooth running of MTRC, including quality control, production, sales, and training.

This visit not only sparked curiosity but also inspired the students to think innovatively about agribusiness opportunities and how entrepreneurship can be rooted in local, sustainable practices.
We commend the Nyabikoni SS team for their enthusiasm and thoughtful questions, and we look forward to hosting more educational visits that help shape the next generation of agripreneurs.
