MUSHROOM TRAINING AND RESOURCE CENTRE

 


MTRC is a registered Community Based Organization (CBO) located in Kabale District, 3km from Kabale town along Kabale-Mbarara road in Kabatogote Cell, Kyanamira Sub County. The Centre was established in 2007 and has been fully operational since then, supporting mushroom farmers especially women and youth from various districts across Uganda. MTRC is accredited by Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT) under the Ministry of Education and Sports to conduct short certificate courses.




Our vision is to improve livelihoods for present and future generations within rural communities through increased mushroom production and sales.

Our mission is to support rural farmers, especially women and youth with oyster mushroom growing enterprises, which are economically viable, socially and culturally acceptable, and ecologically sustainable.

Our goal is to improve household food security and incomes of communities through establishing self-sustaining mushroom enterprises.



Objectives of MTRC

•       To conduct trainings for organized farmer groups that can produce quality fresh and dry mushrooms

•       To add value to fresh mushrooms through farther processing

•       To explore new market opportunities for mushroom products

•       To establish linkages and partnerships at each level of the value chain

Major activities at MTRC;

•          Production of quality mushroom spawn

•          Production, value addition and marketing of Oyster  mushroom products

•          Production and sale of Solar driers

•          Training farmers in mushroom production and value addition

•          Offering consultancy services

PUM Expert Geert Lemmers Visits MTRC to Support Button Mushroom Project

  We were honored to host Mr. Geert Lemmers, a mushroom cultivation expert from PUM (Programma Uitzending Managers) in the Netherlands, for a three-day technical support visit at the Mushroom Training and Resource Centre (MTRC) from Tuesday, 20th May to Thursday, 22nd May 2025. MTRC team posing with Mr. Geert at the Centre’s Head Office Mr. Lemmers arrived at Katuna border on Tuesday morning and was warmly received by the MTRC team. After checking into his hotel in Kabale, he visited our facility where he toured our site, inspected the container designated to serve as both a bunker and pasteurization unit for our new button mushroom project, and reviewed the compost preparation process currently underway. His expert insights helped us refine our composting approach and improve the efficiency of our operations. Kabale Secondary School S6 Entrepreneurship Class Trains at MTRC – April 1, 2025

On   April 1, 2025 , we had the privilege of hosting the   Senior Six Entrepreneurship class   from   Kabale Secondary School   for an in-depth training on mushroom cultivation and agribusiness.
